When dealing with metals, Spot welding is a nice fancy way of saying that you are going to apply heat on 2 metal pieces and sticking them. Most factories love it because you can do it fast and is steak welds great for the metal side of things. We are going to discover all the things related with spot welding and how it works in joining metal pieces together for a myriad of products.
Spot Welding requires you to have a spot welder, which is a special machine (shown in cover picture) This machine is going to conduct electricity through the two pieces of metal you want to bond together. The electric current heats the metal very hot. The heat melts the metal areas, which then bond to one another. The clamp will be used to press the 2 metal pieces togahter at time-1. That are important as this allows the weld to be strong. Once the metal pieces that are going to be welded are clamped together you put each end of spot-welder onto them carefully. As you power up the welder, an electrical current is established that results in a hot arc to melt out the metal. This process allows for binding of metals together at this melting point so they can be as one solidified mass after it colds down.
This is helpful in factories as its fast and works great for metal connections. It is known as a spot welding and in the automotive industry (where cars are produced) it is used to connect two subtrees of car bodywork — such as doors with frame. In addition to being used for automotive welding, spot welding is also a common method of manufacturing household appliances. A great example of this is in the design and manufacturing of refrigerators, washing machines and even microwaves. Items in these categories often include thousands of spot welds, and because this form of welding is very quick, it helps factories to produce them at scale without halting the assembly line for too long.
For the best work and well-prepared spot welding you must set it up correctly. This will depend on how thick the metal and what type of material you are using. As an example, thicker metals may need higher settings to generate adequate heat and thinner metals might be okay with lower settings. Also, ensure you are using clean and non-damaged electrode tips on the spot welder as well. Dirty or damaged tips may result in a poor quality weld which is less strong.
Clean the Metal : Whenever you work with metal, ensure that it is clean & clear of all debris / dirt. This includes removing any dirt, oil or residue that might block the weld from fusing and cause weak joins.
Monitor Weld Time: Keep an eye on your welding time. However, if the welding continues for too long, you can damage the metal components and create holes or weak points. In the other case too if you do not weld long enough, your weld will be weak what could result in that pieces are not hold together correctly.
But there are lots of really cool new things for doing spot welding popping up all over. Robotic spot welding is one of them. Robots are fast, as well meticulous so they can save factories shit loads of money in labour costs. Laser spot welding is another recent method. It performs a similar task but instead of using an electric current this method uses a high-powered laser to melt the metal pieces together.
